Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month: http://www.bowelcancerawarenessmonth.org/ .

Bowel Cancer Australia estimates that changes in diet and physical activity could reduce the incidence of bowel cancer by up to 75%.

They advise that we should:

  • Exercise more
  • Eat plenty of dietary fibre, milk and calcium and fruits and vegetables
  • Eat garlic

We should steer clear of large amounts of red meat, processed meats and animal fats, limit alcohol intake and avoid smoking. Keeping body weight at a healthy level can also dcrease the risk of bowel cancer.

Whilst bowel cancer is not completely preventable, these isuggestions are all great ones for general health. For more infomation, see the Bowl Cancer Australia website: http://www.bowelcanceraustralia.org/bca/
